International Relations Term Paper Guidelines
Your term paper is intended for you to gain deep understanding of a major debate, topic and problem in current world politics. Guidelines are as follows:
At least 8-10 pages in length (not including the bibliography or “Works Cited” page).
Your papers must include page numbers be uploaded to the Essay content area on the course Blackboard site by December 1st.

I do not require a particular citation style. Choose the one you prefer.
Your paper must be organized into discrete sections with section headings, including an introduction, sections in the body of the paper, and a conclusion.
Choose from the following list of topics:
Was President Biden’s decision to continue the Trump Administration’s withdrawal of all American troops from Afghanistan a wise foreign policy decision given how rapidly the Taliban took over the country and declared a new government?
Compare and contrast the Obama Administration’s decision to enter the United States into the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (so-called Iran Nuclear Deal) with Iran and the UN Security Council P5+1 (Germany), with the Trump Administration’s decision to withdraw the US from the deal, with the Biden Administration’s foreign policy challenge of whether to re-negotiate a new deal with Iran and the P5 governments? Should the Biden Administration seek to strike a new deal with Iran?
Was the Obama Administration’s decision to enter the Paris Climate Accord a wise foreign policy decision? Was the Trump Administration’s decision to withdraw from the accord a wise decision? Was it a wise foreign policy decision for President Biden to reenter the Paris Climate Treaty?
Was the Trump Administration’s trade war with China a successful or failed foreign policy? Provide evidence as to whether the policy benefitted or hurt the American economy.

Was the President Trump’s foreign policy with North Korea to de-nuclearize the Korean Peninsula a success or failure? Provide evidence. Should the Biden Administration actively engage Chairman Un and the North Korean in bilateral talks and negotiations, in multilateral talks/negotiations with the P5, or continue a policy of isolating North Korea through UN-sanctioned economic sanctions?
Following on the debate between Realism and Liberalism/Idealism, should the United States intervene in civil wars around the world and promote American values of democracy? You can apply this question to the cases of Afghanistan, North Korea, Venezuela, Cuba and the like.
